Our prediction for this Championship match:
Following a 1-1 draw with Bristol City, Cardiff City will be aiming to escape the relegation zone when they take on Plymouth in the Championship round 9. The Bluebirds showed signs of improvement before the international break, beating Millwall at home and they are surely capable of matching Plymouth at their Cardiff City Stadium. The likes of Callum O’Dowda, Aaron Ramsey, Will Fish, Ryotaro Tsunoda, and Kion Etete are out of contention with injuries for the home side.
The Pilgrims, on the other hand, continue with their old habit of producing fine performances at home, while struggling on the travels. As Plymouth have already suffered three defeats on the road this term, we are tempted to put our money on the South Wales outfit. Goalkeeper Conor Hazard continues to miss out with a ligament problem, but he should be the only absentee in the visiting team.
How the bookies view it: More travel sickness for Rooney
Despite sitting bottom of the pile, Cardiff City are BW777‘s 19/20 favourites for this one with home advantage. That’s probably because Plymouth have lost four of their five away games this term, with the Pilgrims are 5/2 outsiders here. The draw will be popular with punters at 12/5.
Recent head to head: Dozen get much tighter
This fixture has been keenly contested in recent years, with the last 12 meetings producing four wins apiece and four draws. Plymouth Argyle just edged it last season, following up a 2-2 draw in Wales with a 3-1 victory on the south coast.
Highlighted Team (Cardiff):
Cardiff City are a Welsh football club that compete in the English second tier (Championship). In 2009 they moved from Ninian Park to Cardiff City Stadium, the venue that officially holds 33,280 spectators.
The Bluebirds played their first ever Premier League match on 18 August, 2013, but they were beaten by West Ham United (0-2) on their debut in the English top flight. However, a week later Fraizer Campbell (two goals) and Aron Gunnarson helped Cardiff City record their first ever win in the Premier League.
The Bluebirds outplayed Manchester City back then, but they eventually dropped to the Championship at the end of the season. Fellow Welsh outfit Swansea City are considered Cardiff’s fiercest rivals and the two teams take on each other in the South Wales derby.
Players to watch: Morgan spice for the Pilgrims
Morgan Whittaker was Plymouth’s hero in their last game as he scored at the death to seal a 2-1 win over Blackburn. He let me down when I backed him for an assist in the win over Luton but is always a creative spark. Betano price him at ?/? for another goal while the assist pays ?/? at WK777.
Cardiff haven’t had a settled side so it’s tricky picking a scorer for them. Midfielder Ollie Tanner scored last time out and he’s ?/? at JILIPH to repeat the trick here.
Probable line-ups
Callum O’Dowda is a doubt for Cardiff while Will Fish, Aaron Ramsey, Kion Etete and Ryotaro Tsunoda are set to miss out again. Plymouth are hoping Darko Gyabi recovers from a knock while keeper Conor Hazard is still injured.
Cardiff City: Alnwick, Goutas, Chambers, Bagan, Ng, Ralls, Robertson, El Ghazi, Colwill, Tanner, Robinson.
Plymouth Argyle: Grimshaw, Mumba, Szucs, Edwards, Gibson, Cissoko, Whittaker, Gyabi, Randell, Al Hajj, Obafemi.
Cardiff vs Plymouth Prediction
Cardiff had an unimpressive start to this season and was following the same. However, the team managed to seal two consecutive unbeaten games in the league of late. Meanwhile, Plymouth is having an inconsistent form since the beginning of this season but has managed to clinch three wins in the last five matches.
Moving on, Cardiff was unbeaten in four of the last six head-to-head meetings against Plymouth. The last two meetings between the two saw the landing of the both teams to score and over 2.5 goals option. Cardiff was unbeaten in four of the last five clashes against Plymouth at this venue too.
Additionally, Plymouth is having a five-match winless streak on the road which includes four defeats. On the other hand, Cardiff won two of the last five home outings. However, the Cardiff defense has allowed 9 goals in the last five home matches which is noteworthy.
By the looks of things, we expect a pleasant day for the local supporters at Cardiff City Stadium on Friday. We don’t expect Cardiff to seal a one-sided win as they have a poor defensive line at home.
